Peaceful Bricks

We're still celebrating Home for the Holidays this week at Jingle Belles.  I decided to use the *make a card that includes building materials* portion of the prompt this week.  I thought a brick wall would be a good backdrop for a holiday card design.

When I was searching for good *brick-colored* paper, I found this gorgeous piece of red velvet paper in my stash … and wondered if velvet would emboss.  One of the great things about creating art is saying … why, not … let's give it a try.

Apparently the last time I used my Brick Embossing Folder was in September 2012, when I inked it with white ink (and as often happens in my studio, failed to clean it very well).  I initially thought I would clean it … but then again said *why not* and gave it a try with the ink residue … which produced a very cool effect on the Red Velvet … love those happy accidents.

I attached the velvet paper to the blue card base with strong double sided tape adhered about 1/2 inch in from the edge, which allowed the edges and corners to curl slightly for a bit more dimension.  I finished with a glittery 3-D layered Christmas gift tag (one of my favorite things to snatch-up at the after-holiday sales).
