This week's SCS Inspiration Challenge comes from the online store of Layla Grace, whose tagline is Love your Life, Express Your Style. The founders of Lyla Grace state, "We feel that beautiful surroundings bring harmony, balance, and happiness to your home and life, and strive to showcase products that will achieve this philosophy.
I chose this Thomas Paul Violet Metamorphosis Linen Pillow for my image inspiration. I also chose the idea from these hanging boards (as well as this week's CPS Sketch) for my card layout.
I wanted to keep the monochromatic design with the pop of color coming from the butterfly. I stamped the Hero Arts Hydrangea in Art Print Brown ink on a warm linen cardstock. The Antique Engravings butterfly was stamped on the background (for the antennae) and again on purple cardstock & cut out for the color.
I wanted to add a tiny bit of color, so I used a purple and green metallic pencil to color along the leaf veins and some of the petals, and then used a soft art eraser to lift most of the color back off, leaving a soft blended effect (which also works for the Gingersnap Creations Pencil Challenge).
I stamped the sentiment from Hero Arts Card Messages after I attached it to the card, but the unevenness caused by the ribbon under neath the image resulted in an uneven impression along the top of the sentiment. I tried to line it up and stamp a second time, and ended up with a slightly shadowed effect, which I decided to embrace (a happy mistake).
I hope you find inspiration.
Great Steff.. Love the creamy background with the real pop of the butterfly. can see the inspiration of the cushion
Gorgeous card. You mentioned metallic pencils-what brand and where did you buy them? Thanks for the info and sharing.
Thanks for the quick reply. Will check the stores next time I am in the city. tfs
