When I saw Ali Edwards’ Butterfly Punch Collage, I knew I had to give this a try. Her challenge was to create a collage using a punch and the principal of repetition.
The first ting to decide on was a punch. I really liked the clean, graphic look of Ali’s collage, so I wanted to use a punch that communicated that feel. I decided on my EK Success Round Medium Buckle punch because I liked the ability to rotate it in the collage, as well as the line combined with the circle.
I went to my scrap bin and just started punching without over thinking color or pattern. After I had a big pile of buckles, I just started arranging them on a 5"x7" white card base. I used a forgiving adhesive to adhere them (Scotch permanent adhesive runner from Sam’s) so I could move them around a bit to keep them in line. I also used a 1/4 square piece of plastic (that I bought for a quilting class long ago) to help keep the pieces evenly spaced. I omitted one buckle and stamped a sentiment from AlexStamping in Charcoal ink to finish my collage.
For my second collage, I used buckles punched from a single scrap of DP that had a variation in pattern and shade. The base is the back of a an Arturo note card that I had messed up (can’t bear to throw any of that gorgeous paper away). I added a Hero Arts sentiment punched with a 7/8" punch and matted on a 1" maroon circle to finish.

ooooooooh! i saw the ali collage too…and i wanna make me one o’ those…but so far all i did was make a card for next week that has butterflies onnit! love the buckles! what a great take on that idea
