The High Line and the New Whitney Museum

Another great day in New York City is in the books.  It turns out that having our condo next to railroad tracks means I can also sleep through sirens and horns (which is a good thing since my hotel is very noisy).  Tonight I believe there's some

I started the day by heading to The High Line … which I believe might be my absolute favorite place to visit in New York.  Even though I've been multiple times, it's a different experience each time because the trees grow taller and the art displays change.  I have never seen as much construction in one place in my entire life.

I started out by checking out the newest leg of the trail … I love that they incorporated some of the tracks into the walking area (in the other parts of the trail the track is incorporated into the garden space).

I loved this new drinking fountain called by Ryan Gander.

Also there was some new Einstein Graffiti that I loved.

I stopped at Chelsea Market for lunch.  When I used to volunteer after work, I would stop and pick-up supper at a local Asian restaurant.  When I arrived, the family was always seated around the table eating a whole fish.  I've had *eating a whole fish* on my bucket list for some time, but even though I've seen restaurant owners eating it, I've never seen it on the menu … until today at Cull & Pistol … and I knew I had to have it.

And it was even better than I imagined.  The skin was crispy and flavorful and the meat was so juicy and delicious.  The fish was a dourade topped with a salad made from green mango, young coconut, Thai basil, cucumber, chili, mint, fish sauce, peanuts … so good.

Next stop was the newly re-opened Whitney Museum of American Art … I grew up around a lot of Thomas Hart Benton art, but this one called Poker Night was unlike any I had ever seen (even though I still immediately recognized it as his work) … loved the colors.

I also never knew that poet e. e. cummings was also a painter … another fantastic use of color.

And I hung out with another artist I always recognize … Willem de Kooning (Girl on Bicycle).

I also loved this one call La Fortune by Man Ray.

Next stop was to visit the ladies at The Ink Pad.  They manage to fit so much creative stuff into their tiny space.

Here's my haul … lucky for me there's room in my suitcase.  Can't wait to play.
