I really wanted to recreated the Kissed Layered Embossing technique Jennifer Maguire demonstrated in the Graphic Stamps lesson of Stretch Your Stamps, but just couldn't seem to make it work today. It could be the extra high humidity (is that rain falling from the sky?) or the fact that for the life of me I couldn't find any of my colored embossing powders (not sure where they ended-up after the new flooring install … still trying to get stuff organized).
So, I did what any good *Stretch Your Stamps* student would do … I developed my own technique that gave me the look I wanted, and still incorporated some of my favorite elements of her design (the dimensional flowers, using the flower stamp to create the leaves, & the lighter edges around the blooms).
I stamped the graphic flowers from Paper Smooches Potpourri stamp set in Aquamarine Chalk ink on My Mind's Eye Stella Designer paper and clear embossed. I trimmed around the flowers leaving a border. I discovered a trick for getting a nice fold with the flower … I flipped the flower upside down and scored vertially and horizontally on my scor-it (creating valleys on the front) and then flipped it over and scored diagonally to get the mountains. Here's a close-up of one of the blooms.
To get dimension when I adhered my flowers, I stacked two extra-thick glue dots in the center. To create the leaves, I stamped the flower in Ranger Saffron Archival ink, and cut it into fourths while leaving a border around the edges. The layout is this week's Designer Drafts Challenge at Paper Smooches.
I finished with a sentiment from Paper Smooches Good Gab using the colors from this week's Play Date Cafe Challenge for my color palette.
Even though I had lots of what might be considered *fails* while trying to create my card today … I still had a blast with the creative process. I love taking a class that gets me to think differently about my products, and try things that I likely never would have done on my own.

Your flowers are amazingly well crafted. I also like the way you did the flowers in a different shade of the background color, and then used the contrasting color for the leaves. Blessings!
Man, I have that sketch and color challenge on my desk, too. I actually did homework for this session, but mine came out way too busy.
I’m glad you stamped the flowers the way you did, instead of trying to preserve the white edge. I like how it looks!
