Vintage Button Birthday

We're celebrating Steampunk at Gingersnap Creations in July, and our Spicy Supply Challenge is to use Gears, Cogs & Watch Bits.  Our sponsor this month is DezinaWorld and they provided the Design Team with some great digital images to incorporate into our designs.

My card also uses pages from a vintage 1950 Popular Science Magazine that I picked-up at an estate sale. The picture of this young man reminds me of our Grandad working in his machine shop.  The background is a page of want-ads from the same magazine.

I stamped the ledger from Rogue Redhead Designs' Relish Reading Collection on a piece of Basic Grey Designer Paper and then embossed it with gears and clock faces.  I rubbed on a bit of Black Soot Distress Ink to bring out the texture.  The gears were die cut from more Basic Grey and Dezina Printable Collage Images.  I also added a Steampunk Balloon floating above my sentiment from RRD's Bits & Pieces.

Since this card will be for my brother, and I didn't have any vintage watch pieces, I incorporated vintage metal buttons from his mother's collection.  Here's a close-up of several of them.  The one on the right has a train going over a tressel in a canyon … very unusual and unique.  The one on the left looks like some sort of beautiful abalone shell.

Can't wait to see what fun things you create with cogs, gears, and watch parts.
