Fabric Flower Fun

This week's Tuesday Challenge at the Jacksonbelle Embellishments Blog is to create a card with the color palette of Brown, Blue & White (keyword JBE095 or link to the challenge post).  I knew I wanted to use these awesome Brown Mini papers from Jenni Bowlin (they're 30% off in the store together wtih Imaginisce, Pink Paislee & in-stock Stampavie ).  I think this is the first package of paper where I actually used every single sheet. Keyword JBEEMAIL at checkout will get you 10% off your entire order.

I tried several different blues and was struggling to get it right … then I remembered some light blue fabric squares that my mother-in-law had given me on Saturday & the Everything But the KItchen Sink Challenge to use fabric.  I wondered if there were any easy ideas to make a fabric flower?  I found this wonderful Tutorial on the Wise Craft blog and decided to give it a try.

Instead of cutting out the templates she provided, I punched one 2" & 1 1/2" scalloped circle from cardstock to use as my template.  For the large flower, I folded the fabric in half & held the template in place with my finger while I used a single cut for two flowers.  For the small flower, I folded it in fourths, so I only had to make one cut to get four scalloped circles.

If you look close (click for larger), you can see the cutting was messy & imprecise, but I don't think it really mattered once all of the pieces were layered (it would be much easier if you had die cuts).  I omitted the pin backing in the tutorial; stitched the flower together; and attached the corduroy brad top with a glue dot (I snipped off the brad connectors).

I finished with a fun new bluebird sticker from SRM Stickers, who has a baby card challenge going on.  I'm thinking this little card would be perfect to welcome a new little one.  Caardvarks also has a sticker challenge that runs through tonight.
