Winter Cabbage Bloom

Brassica_january_king2 When we traveled this fall, there were several planters in Savannah that used cabbage in with the flowers for wonderful bursts of texture and color.

When I saw this week's Tuesday Trigger was a gorgeous head of King Cabbage, I knew I had to play along.  Green and Purple is a favorite color combination of mine.

I started with a gorgeous piece of designer paper from Memory Box that beautifully combined the colors from the Cabbage.  The flourish reminded me of a flower stem, so I punched flowers (the large one is the new chrysanthemum punch from Martha Stewart) from several pieces of designer paper to make my own floral embellishment.  I shaped the papers with my fingers to mimic the unfolding leaves of the cabbage and added ink to the edges for dimension.

The sentiment is a grungy little bloom from Artistic Outpost's Harmony plate.  I distressed the edges of the panel and added more ink.  I moved my adhesive in slightly from the edges, so I could use my finger to distress and bend the paper (like the cabbage leaves) after attaching it to the card base (which is more Halloween paper … a great source for purple papers).
