Happy Blog-Birthday to Me

It’s hard to believe that it’s been one year since I started my blog.  My first year of blogging has been more rewarding than I ever imagined … it included 536 posts, 2385 comments, and over 57,000 hits.  I love looking back at all of the posts chronicling this wonderful year of creativity … thanks so much to all of you for stopping by my little corner of blogland.

To celebrate, I have some goodies for one lucky reader.

Blogiversary

All you have to do is leave me a comment by midnight on Saturday night (July 26th) telling me one of your favorite ‘non-traditional’ supplies that you use when you create.   I’ll use my dear husband the random number generator to pick a winner.

Some of my favorites are a foam sanding block that I picked up at the hardware store & sheets of 11" x 17" cardstock that I use on top of a same-size piece of craft foam for a perfect stamping surface (I got a damaged ream of paper very cheap from a local paper company).

  1. Mmmm, I’m still so new to all this that I don’t think I’ve found any non-traditional supplies yet…but I do have to have music! Lauren sent me some vinage card thingys …tarot cards, language game cards, etc, and I’m looking forward to using those very soon.
HAPPY BLOG BIRTHDAY Stef…looking forward to another year of wonderful creations!

  3. Oh, I hope it’s me. I loooove that cupcake set. They are sold out around here.
Probably my most non-traditional supply is dry wall mesh tape that I emboss and use here and there as a background.

Non-traditional supply? Well, since I’m still quite new, I don’t have much that is non-traditional.. still learning! 🙂

  5. Congrats…I enjoy your blog and try and visit daily. I love using paint chips as they are free from the Home Improvement centers and they come in such a variety of colours.
Thanks for a chance to win.

  6. Happy Blog Birthday! How exciting!!The only real non-traditional thing that I can think of right now is the piece of luggage I use to take to big crops – it’s made to hold clothes and a laptop – but it has a pop out side table that folds down. I love it – it gives me a little extra table space and it has tons of storage. Plus it wheels around and hubby was just going to toss it so it was free to me!

  7. Happy blog birthday! I’d have to say that my favorite “strange” stamping supply is a standard page protector. Slice it open, smoosh some ink around on it, then press it to paper for cool backgrounds! (I’ve been eyeing up that HA cupcake set for quite some time now – I love it but just haven’t brought myself to spend the $)

  8. Happy blog B Day!! I’m a big fan!
My favorite non-traditional supplies are all of the “random” things I pick up at Target in the $1 area. I find really interesting things there!

I guess the most ‘non-traditional’ items I use on my cards are silk flowers (from Michael’s, or the $Tree)… I love ripping the flowers off of the bunches that I buy!
    {thanks for stopping by my blog, and for your sweet comment…. I appreciate it!}

  10. Happy Blog-o-versary!!!!
I use LOTS of non-scrappy supplies in my creations! My new favorite tool is the Wilton Fondant Cutter/Embosser – besides doing neat embossed things (it’s on a wheel runner, kind of like an old fabric marking tool), it’s FABULOUS for adding ink – perfect stitched look in runner form that can do curves easily!

  11. Hey!!! Happy Blog Birthday!!! I, too, LOVE the cupcake set!!!
I use I’m not as original as I though, from reading these other comments! LOL! I use paint chips, cause they’re free! I also use mail stuff… And I love anything I can find in the $1 Spot at Target! But now I’ll have to try the dry wall mesh!!! Thanks for the ideas, ladies!

Happy Non traditional supplies I’ve used : pom pom trims from the haderdashery section of an upmarket departmental store from Bangkok ! But now after CHA Summer 08, I think Maya Road does a fab job at only US$0,75 per yard they said !

  13. Im just getting into stamping and the only thing I can think of is using the backs of cereal boxes to die cut shapes and ink or apply a graphic to it, kinda like cheap and free chipboard, lol!
Thanks for the giveaway, looks yummy :0)

One of my favorite choices is to use the quilting template tools by June Taylor . I have the sets of circles, ovals, stars so far and I’m hoping to complete my collections. They are flexible but sturdy and range in sizes from 2″-8″. Best of all they were very inexpensive.

  15. Hi Steph!! CONGRATS on your one year blog birthday..isn’t it fun to celebrate!! I love to use handmade fabric yo-yos on my cards and recently I started using my old ugly sparklee eye shadow to add a bit of “bling” to my works of art…thanks for the fun and those cupcake stamps are way too CUTE!!!

  17. Oh a BIG congrats to YOU! Happy Birthday ;^)*
I love to use crumpled plastic wrap to ink and blot — makes a great sort of mottled/crackled backgrounder that is different every time… I like to use it for a gestural sort of leafy effect, too! Thanks for all you share… I LOVE your blog!

  18. Congrats Stef. You probably already know my fave, but I’ll tell you anyway. My Hubbies Toothbrush! Love it to ink up and drag across the edges of my layers. I do get tons of people concerned about his teeth and have even received toothbrushes in the mail. Too funny!

  19. I guess my non-traditional item would be the threading plastic pick used for flossing under bridges – it makes threading thread through buttons so easy – it si so flexible and I also use it with ribbon sometimes….I would love to have this stamp set!!!

Your celebration candy is super sweet. Count me in. I just love the stamp set and of course all the extra goodies.
I use drywell tape for mesh. You can change the colors with reinkers or ink.
    Thanks for a change.

  21. Happy Blogiversary! I think first blogiversarys are always the best.
I would say my cat would be non-traditional. Since her cat hair seems to end up under tape, tabs, on photos….

  22. Thanks for chance to win. I use bodies from my junk mail and magazine ads, and put my family and friends head’s on them. It is very popular, funny, and cheap! I call them my Bobble Head cards….You can also switch out a mother’s head and a child’s head in a photograph, making, for example the mother being held by the baby, just by switching the heads….same for sons and dads in photographs…

My first thought was drywall tape but since several people already said that I’ll give you another one. I don’t use bone folders anymore, I use the Pampered Chef scrapper for there stones.

  24. Happy Anniversary! I’m so glad I found your blog. It’s thrilling to know that someone as talented as you lives in my town!
As for untraditional items. Hmmm. I once used a “bosher” that freaked everybody out! LOL. I use a nail file from Sally Beauty Supply to distress edges. I’m saving some old overalls buckles and some bling off an old headband for some future cards.

  25. I guess ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ is true. I use a flexible cutting board (it was sold in a three pack-one for veggies, one for meats, one for ?), sanding block from an previous refinishing project, xacto-knife from around the house, and all the old buttons, trims, lace that I can find; oh and medical supplies — that’s a biggie, especially guaze for texture/netting. Thanks for all your inspiration, cause otherwise all this ‘stuff’ would just stay in the junk drawers where it all started!!!

  26. Happy Blog day – I love your stuff. The non traditional item I use the most is silver sticky backed metallic tape that my hubby bought to mend flashing on the roof – it dry embosses so beautifully

  27. Hi Steph, Congratulations on your blogiversary – it’s a great date – I share my birthday with your blog! I love to try and extend the boundaries of what I can use in my cards – probably my most non-traditional (and cheapest) item would be the year I made Chistmas cards with a Hero Arts Cardinal, and I embossed a little twig with gold embossing powder for each card for the bird to perch on – those cards looked so cool! The twigs were so easy to emboss as well: I just rolled them over an old, discoloured versamark stamp pad and the embossing powder stuck beautifully to it.

  28. Happy Blog birthday! My favorite thing I use is heat tape the plumbers use, I like to emboss it in my cuttlebug and then use rubbing paste over it. I found something new this week and haven’t used it yet, it is little black eyes. They look like mini black dew drops. I can’t wait to use them. Thank you for the chance to win some yummy candy.

  29. Congratulations on your blogversary! What fun! My favorite non-traditional supplies would be anything from the hardware store. Like painting supplies. They’re so much cheaper than stuff that says “stamping”. Thanks for sharing.

  31. Oh, I’ve been wanting those very cupcake stamps! I have no cupcake stamps, but I do have a sentiment stamp that says,”Have your cupcake and eat it too.” So you see, I need to win 🙂
My non-trditional item is some grey foam tubing I found in the plumbing department at Home Depot. It is perfect to use to paint circles! I cut off a 2″ strip, and when it gets too gunky, I toss it and cut another! I am still on the original package, and probably will never need to buy another. I doubt it cost more than $2 too. I mostly use it when “painting” with my Lumiere paints.

  32. Wow.. the winner of that candy will be thrilled! Let’s see.. I can’t think of anything other than the drywall mesh tape .. its perfect because its adhesive and it is white so it can be colored with ink or markers easily.

  37. Congrats on all the hits! What sweet candy…I’d love to win those cupcakes!! My fave “non-traditional” item would be that I cut up a kitchen sponge (brand-new, of course!)into small pieces, and use them to sponge the edges of cards…for the distressed look. Pick me, “hubby”!!
