More New York Adventures

Lauren and I had another fun day in NYC (you can see the beginning here if you missed it and remember, you can see the whole shebang on my Instagram @smilynstef).

The next morning, we headed to our “big” destination for this trip … The Metropolitan Museum of Art (aka The Met) to see the Krasner and Pollock exhibit. On the way, we played a little Hopscotch …

and took in some lovely mosaic art in the Subway station.

I love the feeling I get when I see The Met.

We started with the newly renovated Costume space where the show was Costume Art. They displayed a piece of art and then a piece of clothing that coordinated. I totally wanted these amazing Nadia Pinkney ensambles.

This one inspired by Yayoi Kusama was also one I would wear.

And you have to love the Vincent Van Gogh Irises insipred top.

Then we headed-up to the main event. It was so cool to see Krasner’s artistic journey through multiple processes and mediums.

Her glass table was a favorite … it was so cool to see up close all of the items she embedded into her design.

And her cut-up paintings collages were interesting too … thinking about destroying art you didn’t love and turning into art you do love.

And her paintings filled with small repeated symbols were mesmerizing.

I loved this one too … so vibrant and alive.

There were cool Pollock’s as well in different styles than just the drip paintings.

When we went hunting for a bathroom, we stumbled upon a student art show in the basement … so many talented artists. I really loved this one, which she said were three different images of herself at different points during a friendship.

And this little cutie made entirely of punched dots was amazing too.

We even found a spot for a joint selfie.

Next we headed to Ilili for a supper. We had been there several years ago and still make their Watermelon, Cucumber, Olive & Feta Salad on repeat.

This time we had the Warm Eggplant (made with tomato and tamarind molasses), Chicken and Duck Schwarma, and Beef Fried Kibbeh … all served with their puffy warm pita bread. We licked our plates clean.

Then we finished the meal with a Birthday Knafeh … yum.

And to end our day, we stopped in at the Fashion Institute of Technology where the student exhibits were about harvesting and creating pigments from the land.

We both loved this coat made from the dyed fabrics.

Then we headed to the FIT Museum where the show was Doll Dressing … it took us both back to our childhoods and the childhoods of others.

There were dolls dressed in custom attire … and adult clothes insipred by doll clothes.

It is a free museum that is near our hotel, and it never disappoints.

It was another glorious day in NYC.
