Last fall my friend Cyndie asked if I would like to join her at an art retreat in Florida. I checked my calendar and said an immediate yes without having any idea what the experience would be. Pretty much, if it involves art, sun and a dear friend I’m in (I’d even do with without the sun … that was just a bonus).
My day started with a pretty cool first for me – a female pilot for my flight out of Cedar Rapids.
I also enjoyed the art at the Atlanta Airport. This exhibit by Herb Williams was along one of the escalators and was built using over 500,000 crayons.
I flew into the Melbourne, Florida airport. Cyndie picked me up at the airport and took us to a lovely little AirBNB in Satellite Beach, Florida that had two bedrooms, two baths and a nice space for us to sit eat our breakfast (Greek yogurt with blueberries and yogurt for me … Avocado Toast with Tomato for Cyndie) and have a drink and unwind in the evening.
We went for a lovely evening walk around the neighborhood and found this little guy and a few of his friends playing in the sprinkler puddles … it brought back lots of happy memories of all of the hours we spent running through the sprinklers in our childhood.
We explored some art galleries the next morning and I saw this Tiki smiling at me from outside a dental practice.
After buying some artsy jewelry, we enjoyed Poke Bowls for lunch, and they hit the spot.
Next we headed to the event location in Cocoa Beach, Florida to meet the other attendees (there were 16 total including the instructor Joanne Sharpe) and share a lovely supper together.
We got to peak at all of our Retreat goodies and got an idea of what we would be creating over the next three days with help from our retreat organizer and Whimsical Art Maker Joanne Sharpe.
We truly enjoyed the company of our fellow artists at supper and looked forward to creating the next day.
