Zentangle Adventure

Another art thing my friend Cyndie and I did together was she taught me how to Zentangle.  I own several books and have wanted to try it for years, and I finally put pen to paper (literally).

She had me start with one of the most basic tangles, which I think was my favorite of what I tried.

I paged through the book and loved the look of these "cherries" (I don't think that is the technical name, but that is what they looked like to me), so I tried them next.

After that I tried more line designs.  Cyndie said it's good to plan out your entire Zentangle ahead of time (after the fact), so you don't have two of the same type of design next to each other, but clearly I failed on that putting two straight line designs side-by-side.

Next I tried the "croquet balls" (again, likely not the literal name) and I really liked that design.

Zen4

I finished with some curlicues and then added a shadow around the outer frame … not too bad for my first attempt.

The next day, I tried again with a smaller square palette and using a fine point Sharpie rather than the Micron pens (which I think I preferred … I'm still on the hunt for a favorite pen).  It would have been better if my two blacked-out designs weren't next to each other, but I could tell improvement from the prior day.  I look forward to continuing to improve in my process.

The book I used for most of our Tangles was this Zentangle Primer Vol. 1 by the creators of the Zentangle technique.
