ABC’s of Gel Press Printing

I've been having fun with the September Back to School ABC's of Gel Press Printing Art Challenge with GelliArts.

ABCs

I pulled out my 5"x7" Gel Plate and my 2" brayer for the first three.

For Alcohol Ink, I used some Marabu Inks.  I started by brayering the orange/yellow ink on the entire plate.  Next I used a new mask from Studio Light applying both colors of inks and letting it dry before removing the mask.  I used some iridescent Pearl Fine Golden Open Acrylic Paint to pick-up the prints.

To make a quick card, I sponged a little glue ink in the open spaces where the ink didn't pick-up as well and then attached it to a patterned card base, before finishing with a vintage cork sticker from my stash.

For B is for Brayer I used my brayer to apply two paints into blended stripes.  The Amsterdam Paint is new to me and it stayed very wet, so I got multiple prints and a fun roll-off print from cleaning my brayer.

For C is for Cardboard I will confess I had to go do some dumpster diving because my husband had taken all of our cardboard out to the cardboard recycling dumpster.  I peeled off one side to expose the interior of the cardboard.

I loved how I got some leftover purple from yesterday's print in the cardstock pattern.  For the lightest print, I used the same pearl paint to pull-up the last bit on the plate.

A challenge like this is perfect for me because it allows me to make a little art at the end of the day when I'm too tired to complete a finished project.

  1. Beautiful work on these, Stef! I really want to try the alcohol ink techniques, so I have a question for you… did they stain your plate? I just replaced mine and am hesitant to stain it… yet! 😉
