For a Moment

Today's SplitcoastStampers Featured Stamper is SharonWisely.  I was really intrigued by her vintage style, so I chose her Birdhouse Project to inspire me … it was the perfect opportunity to play with all of the Postage Stamps I got at the National Postal Museum on our trip to Washington DC last year.

I started with a vintage dictionary page (love this tiny dictionary from my stash that is perfectly card-sized) and instead of choosing themes, I just chose my stamps primarily by having shades of brown as my cohesive theme (my Junkiefest group and I have a running joke about all the variations of Brown Distress inks, so I thought it was fitting).

Finding Milton Hersey made me smile (because … well … chocolate) and I had to look-up Henry O. Tanner to learn more about this famous American Artist (that stamp is from 1973) … but I think my favorite were the floral coffee pots, which was American Toleware  (from 2008).

My vintage Mailman Stamp from Chicago company The Stamp Clinic seemed perfect for the theme of my design (and that's sort of the face my husband the Postal Carrier is making each morning as he ventures out into the world).

I finished by creating my own little poem using sentiment stamps.  I thought about framing them to stand out more … but then decided I sort of liked how they fade into the texty background.

I'm also joining the Allsorts Challenge for their Something Old, Something New Challenge (I've also go Something Blue and Something Borrowed if you count the fact that Lauren and I shared my Postal treasure trove (and she even sorted them all into envelopes for me)).
