We started our vacation with a few days in Kansas City, Missouri … the two of us love road trips.
We stayed at the Marriott on The Plaza (would not recommend it, but the location was good). Our first stop was Sonic (because I always need my Diet Dr. Pepper with Vanilla and extra ice when I'm in Missouri). After that we headed to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art for an afternoon of art. They had the Jackson Pollock on loan from the University of Iowa.
And a fantastic Dorthea Lange photography exhibit (by which I was so transfixed, I didn't take a single picture). I did however capture a favorite of Basie & Lena photographed by Roy DeCarava in 1957 … our high school band director took us to see Count Basie in concert … quite a memory.
It was also a gorgeous day to explore the outside art … I call this piece The Thinker & The Shrugger.
We enjoyed supper with friends at Pad Thai where we ate the appetizer sampler, Catfish Filets with Sam Rod Sauce, and Massaman Curry, which were all fantastic. I was too busy visiting to remember to take any photos. Always great to have the chance to catch-up.
The next morning we headed to Bob Jones Shoes for one of my favorite past times … shoe shopping. There were shoes as far as the eye could see.
I picked-up a cute little pair of red dress flats from Camper and some cute brown boots by a new to me company Regarde le Ciel.
Next stop was the only art store we could find that was open on a Monday … Artist & Craftsman Supply of Kansas City. I will admit, my expectations were low … but the reality was amazing. I filled an entire bag of paints, inks, papers and tools and can't wait to play with them.
Rod gave the music selection a thumbs-up … he and the goat puppet were jamming along with The Doors (and yes, we brought that cute goat home … how could we resist).
Next stop was The Plaza where we enjoyed Margarita Monday at Zocalo.
We also enjoyed some amazing Macaroni & Cheese and grilled asparagus with Chicken Fajitas … overall another awesome visit to one of our favorite cities.
