Last year we extended the annual Sisters' Weekend Adventure into a Sisters' Week at Fort Myers Beach, Florida. We had so much fun, we decided to do it again, this time exploring Siesta Key, Florida.
This was our view on our first morning … the previous days' storms made the water very choppy and beautiful. We spend each morning sitting on our chairs under an umbrella enjoying this amazing view.
And of course if you've traveled with us before, you know there was lots of fun, laughter and good food too.
One afternoon we explored Sarasota Jungle Gardens where my sister had fun feeding the flamingos (and the lady who sold us our ticket proceeded to tell us all of the animal shows we'd already missed that day … not so helpful).
We drove into Sarasota for most of our meals, taking tips from TripAdvisor who didn't steer us wrong. This meal was spicy local collard greens, Owen's succotash (with edamame and chickpeas), and blackened Kitty Mitchell with green tomato salsa (seriously some of the best blackened fish we'd ever eaten) from Owen's Fish Camp. We also had Garlic Snails with Chorizo, Sweet Wine & Grits, which was one of the best dishes I've ever had … such a great dining experience.
For lunch one afternoon we went to Maemi on 17th for chilled mussels with onions, tomatoes, and Peruvian corn, seafood ceviche, and fried plantains. The toasted Peruvian corn was served to start the meal with an amazing fresh cilantro dipping sauce that I wanted to eat with a spoon (maybe something like this).
When we found out that Veronica Fish & Oyster had the same owners as Owen's Fish Camp, we knew that had to be our next dinner stop … and it certainly did not disappoint. We had a fresh oyster sampler, large bowl of amazing Mussels, freshly baked potato rolls topped with salt … and the crowning glory, an entire fried fish served Thai style … another absolutely fantastic dining experience.
We also tried some Greek food at El Greco Mediterranean … a starter of Feta, Olives and Peppers followed by Moussaka and Grilled Octopus.
We had a fantastic getaway and will certainly be missing the beach (and each other).
