We're enjoying a little western Iowa road trip this week … and we started by venturing over into Nebraska. We stayed in the Old Market District and really enjoyed our exploring.
We started with a late lunch at Plank Seafood Provisions where the fish and chips were crispy, meaty and delicious … and happy hour oysters were $1.25 each.
We explored lots of fun stores including Drastic Plastic, Drastic Plastic Underground and Ashley's Collectibles.
Today we enjoyed a rainy overcast day at the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. We had a fantastic visit here almost 10 years ago … and it was even better this time. They just keep adding and improving.
One of the highlights of the day was getting to see three baby tiger cubs learning how to climb on logs and rocks (and Mama supervising).
They were just so darn cute. This little one finally managed to get himself up onto the rock ledge and then had a heck of a time figuring out how to get back down.
The zoo is built to be open all year 'round, so most of the animal viewing is actually done in covered areas, which made it perfect for the intermittent rain. The gorillas were not amused by the rain and sat right by the class under the awnings.
They also have fantastic water exhibits where you can see the animals both above & under the water. This guy was giving me the stink eye.
This Zoo is certainly destination-worthy if you enjoy spending time with the animals. Here we are after cleaning-off our steamed-up glass in the rain forest.
Tonight we enjoyed another exceptional meal at Blue Sushi Saki Grill … the Happy Hour specials were fantastic. Fried Spring Onions may be my new favorite garnish.
And whatever you do, make sure you leave room for Ted and Wally's Premium Homemade Ice Cream. Rod had cinnamon … I got a bit more adventurous with Hater's Tears (salted caramel blueberry with chocolate chips) and Gute Goat Im Himmel (chevre, cinnamon and cranberries).
Tomorrow we're hitting the road for more western Iowa adventures.

Looks like a wonderful adventure! Those baby tigers are just adorable, and I could watch the big cats all day long. I’ll have to check out that zoo someday. The food looks delicious, and if that seafood restaurant has a good oyster po’ boy, I’ll really try hard to get there, lol! Enjoy the rest of your trip.
Looks and sounds like a fabulous day. Seeing the tiger cubs in action would be a real treat. Seems like every zoo I ever go to, the big animals are hiding somewhere out of view or just lying around doing nuthin’. lol
