Today's adventure was exploring the Minneapolis Institute of Art. We started with the Leonardo da Vinci exhibit called The Codex Leicester and the Creative Mind.
No photos were allowed, and I even had to hand over my lip balm to be picked-up at the end (not exactly sure what they thought I was going to do to the art with a tube of clear lip balm).
It was so amazing to see pages filled with Leonardo's handwriting … and to see all of the different problems he hypothesized about and tried to solve with his drawings … very inspiring.
Of course we couldn't resist having a little da Vinci photo fun.
I tried my best Mona Lisa smirk.
There was also an amazing Minneapolis Satellite Exhibit of Crochet Coral Reef (read more about the Exhibit Here).
Next we explored Mark Mothersbaugh Myopia (aka founder of DEVO) … I didn't know what to expect, but I was completely enthralled. Because of his severe myopia, a lot of his art was on a smaller scale. I loved these repeated cows.
He has also created over 30,000 postcards and a there was an entire room whose floor was covered with postcard albums. This is one of my favorites.
We also enjoyed the contemporary art section of the museum. I am always amazed when I see a Chuck Close painting in person … the details are mesmerizing … I loved the reflections you could see in the glasses.
This was another piece I loved … she looks like Drew Barrymore to me.
Another great day of appreciating art (really makes me miss my studio).
