We had a fun little getaway to Des Moines this weekend, which was just what we needed to cure the mid-winter doldrums.
For this trip we stayed downtown and started with a visit to Raygun, where their designs are always fantastic & fun … like this cup koozie.
Next we stopped at AllSpice for some new flavors for our spice collection … I can't wait to try some hibiscus tea with hibiscus powder and granulated honey.
We were getting hungry, so we stopped for lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, Fong's Pizza.
The Crab Rangoon pizza is my favorite, but today I wanted to try another pizza, so I started with the Crab Rangoon appetizer … so amazing. Light fluffy perfectly seasoned filling inside a thin, crispy spring roll wrapper. I highly recommend them.
For our pizzas, we went with the Iowan (top) and the new-to-us Thai Chicken pizza (bottom) … both were fantastic.
We saw this awesome mural by Chris Vance as we were exploring … how do you not smile when you see this on your walk.
We ended the evening at the Des Moines Performing Arts Center to see The Book of Mormon … great venue (actually room to walk in front of people in a row without stepping on toes) … and a fabulous performance.
All-in-all a fantastic little getaway.

Sounds like a great road trip. Those crab rangoons look amazing! Very different from the super doughy ones you normally get at places.
