You Rock

Have you ever tried so hard to make your design fit into the guidelines of a challenge that you end-up ruining the card altogether?

On this card, I started with the Color Palette from My Favorite Things combined with a Sketch from Just Add Ink.  I think about my card designs abstractly when I begin, but I seldom have the entire idea decided until the end.

I started by die cutting the MFT Die-Namics Blueprint 11 in both blue & white cardstock.  I decided I liked the contrast of the white letters on the blue background rather than the blue-on-white, so I started there.  Next I cut the orange circle which provided a nice contrast to my text.  Then … things started falling apart.

I tried several ways to incorporate the final color – Fuse Green (stamping sentiments, images, punches, etc.).  Finally, I noticed the star on the table leftover from the Blueprint, and then the rest of the card came together.  I pulled out some coordinating star punches, and I was able to layer on the colors.

As I was getting ready to photograph the card, I spied some coordinating embellishments that I placed over three of the punched dots … and voila, it was done.

I had a great visit with my Mom & Step-Dad this weekend … it was so fun to get to show them our new home and some of Iowa … and to get a few pictures of Mom & Me.

  1. Stef, this is an AMAZING card!! Great, bold, graphic design – love your take on our sketch, and the balance of colour you’ve achieved. The green dots were the perfect finishing touch. Thanks for playing along with us at Just Add Ink this week!
