Sisters’ Weekend 2014 – St. Louis – Good Eats

One thing my sister and I both enjoy is trying unique restaurants and foods … and this Sisters' Weekend was no exception (and kudos to my sister for many of the awesome photos).

We began our food tour with lunch at the Sassafras Cafe at the Missouri Botantical Garden (mostly out of necessity, but it turned out to be a delicious lunch).  I had the soup and quiche of the day.

My sister had a fantastic sandwich called The Hill, which was salami, mortadella, turkey, provelone cheese, lettuce, tomato, house giardiniera and Italian dressing on a rustic roll … yum.

We stopped at one of our favorite places to find fun foods … World Market … which just happens to be right next door to a Trader Joe's … double yum.

Supper was one of our best meals of the trip … Mission Taco Joint.  We enjoyed the ala carte tacos with street corn off the cob (must find this recipe) and black beans.  The Margaritas were particularly tasty and service was top notch.  The Churros with a Chocolate Mole dipping sauce are not to be missed (might I add … taking a decent picture of a Churro is almost impossible).

We ventured to Kayak's by Kaldi's Coffee for breakfast … I had a crustless quiche and my sister enjoyed the delicious Sicilian Sandwich.

We stopped at Thai Gaiyang Cafe for lunch … it was a bit hot and stuffy … with only one waiter who got my order wrong … but my sister said her dish was delish.

Piccione Pastry was on the same block as our hotel (Moonrise Hotel, which I highly recommend).  My sister tried Tiramisu for the first time … and I discovered the Italian Tri-Color Cookie, which was its own little bite of heaven.

For supper we went for Thai again … this time Thai Pizza.

We started with Fresh Spring Rolls …

and then we shared Drunken Pizza (Kee Maow Pizza) and Tom Yum Goong Pizza.

On Saturday, we tried the lunch buffet at House of Indian (not sure why we didn't snap any photos … probably because we were too busy eating).

We also made a stop at Global Market which was the best International Grocery store I have ever visited.  They had a wide selection of produce … I had never seen Chinese Okra … they were huge.

We had fun going down every single aisle (which was organized by country) … and bought quite a few things to try.

For supper, we ventured to Wasabi Sushi Bar where we shared four different rolls … perfect combination of textures and flavors.

We enjoyed breakfast at the Eclipse Restaurant at our hotel on Sunday.  I had the Eggs Benedict (my go to dish because I never go to the trouble to make it at home)

My sister had their signature Frosted Flake Coated French Toast which was delicious (yes, I stole a few bites)

For lunch we were craving Greek, so we stopped at Ari's where we enjoyed the sampler platter and the Gyro Plate (with plenty of leftovers to put in the fridge at the hotel).

For our final meal, we ventured down Delmar to Seoul Taco where we tried the Bulgogi Tacos (amazing), the Spicy Pork Tacos and shared a Chicken Gogi Bowl.  Pretty much the atmosphere you would except for a food truck/restaurant, but the food was amazing (wishing I had more Bulgogi right now).
