I thought the first day of a new year would be a good time to make a card that scares me … specifically, a one-layer card. There's no where to hide in a one layer card … no where to cover-up smudges or crooked stamping … and no room for mistakes.
The Challenge at the One-Layer Simplicity Challenge is Restocking the Shelves … to make cards that have been depleted from your stash. For me, that is birthday cards.
I decided to use Ivory Cardstock (since I noticed my pile of ivory is much taller than my pile of white) and the new Hero Arts Birthday Blackboard (I love how it says to eat cake twice … pretty much my definition of a great birthday).
I picked three colors of ink that I knew would blend into a pleasing color when they overlapped (a variation on the three primary colors). I started by inking the middle of the stamp with Cornflower Blue … and then added Vermillion and Orange Blossom on each end. With careful eyeballing, I got my stamp in the middle of the folded card.
It was actually very easy to make several cards … and now my birthday stash is restocked. Thanks ladies for the inspiration.

very pretty Steph. Happy New Year.
what a great card Steph…
Happy New Year!!
Awesome card! I love the idea of doing a little mass producing to restock the coffers. I am going to have to give this a try.
LOVELY! This card looks like you are a one layer pro Steph!!!!
LOVE IT!
Oh, Steph. You’re weakening my resolve regarding my Hero Arts order. Might have to make some changes in my cart!
And see? One layer isn’t so scary. You just need to get used to it…and I hope you do, ’cause you’re a natural at it!
Thanks for playing the OLS challenge. Hope to see more of your awesome work in the future!
This is a great card. A really great way to use this stamp. Love it.
