Holly Jolly Snow Globe

This week's prompt at Jingle Belles is "It came upon a midnight CLEAR" … to incorporate some clear elements into your card design.

My original plan was to use office supply transparency for some digital elements, but during my recent stuio reorganization, I managed to temporarily *misplace* my transparencies.  So while I was on a studio treasure hunt trying to find them, I kept my eyes focused on any other clear elements I might incorporate into a card design.

When I found these acetate packaging bubbles (that formerly held tiny roses), I decided to see if I could make a shaker snowglobe.  I realized when I was finished, I should have photographed the steps, but it was sort of a trial and error process … that turned out pretty cool.

I started with a 3×3" folded white card.  I used my 2 1/4" circle punch through the front.  I adhered stickers to the back of the cardstock, so they would show through the opening.  Next I inserted the acetate bubble and some clear bead-like pieces (the kind you find in the floral section to fill the bottom of vases) before sealing my little card shut with strong double sided tape around all four sides.

Next I created my standard-sized card front using this week's Cardabilities Sketch and Echo Park Holly Jolly papers.  I then punched through the card front, slipped in my smaller card & shaker, and attached it all to a brown cardstock frame.

I finished with a felt snowflake, adhesive gem, and EAD Rub-on Sentiment … Fa la la la la.

  1. Very neat shaker card! Cute little scene and the beads make it even more festive. I like the sketch; it’s so creative and looks fun to use. That paper collection is nice. I also try to recycle as many things as I can. Since lots of things come in bubble packaging, I have used different sizes and shapes of the bubbles, to make shaker cards. I never, however, thought of using a little card to put inside my card base! I have been lucky that each shape that I’ve used, has an edge (“lip”) on it. For the backing of the bubble, I just trace it onto cardstock, then cut it out and decorate it, trimming if necessary. I then decorate it, add “snow” or glitter (once pennies cause the sentiment was “A penny for your thought”) to the bubble, line up my deoorated piece, then adhere it to the edge with strong (Best Ever brand) glue or red sticky tape. I place it through the hole on my card base and tape it down so it’s secure. I usually cover it up with a panel of the same card stock, or a piece of dp. Hope you don’t mind that I shared the way I have made mine. 🙂

  2. This is adorable, Stef! I’m glad you **didn’t** find your acetate first! What a great idea to repurpose packaging for this technique. I LOVE the snow globe and that darling reindeer! Thanks for popping by my blog. 🙂
