Old-Fashioned Hello

When I saw this week's Tuesday Trigger picture, it made me smile.

Spring Centerpieces and Table Decorations - Button Napkin Holder from Country Living
Several years ago, before my step-mom lost her valiant battle with leukemia, she gave me some of her vintage button collection to use in my creative endeavors.  I knew I had some of the same wonderfully uneven-textured vintage ivory buttons shown in the picture in my collection that would be perfect for an inspired card.

Since my buttons were not still attached to their button cards like the ones in the photo, I die cut a label from textured handmade paper and attached the buttons using mini glue dots.  I just let them turn every which way to bring out the texture, rather than trying to line-up the button holes.

I cut several more layers using progressively larger labels from ivory handmade paper and several sheets of 7 Gypsies Venice designer paper that coordinated with the blue in the photo.

I stamped the Hero Arts sentiment in Creamy Brown ink on textured ivory cardstock that reminded me of the napkins in the photo.  I finished with a double wrap of Cloud-hued Martha Stewart seam binding and kraft-colored thin ribbon.

Creating cards using her buttons is a meditative process for me that always warms my heart as I remember all of the wonderful memories we shared together.  I'll send this card on to one of the special people in my life to let them know how much they mean to me.
