This week's SCS Inspiration Challenge comes from the amazing Sewing Illustration of Miyuki Sakai. She uses her sewing machine like a paintbrush and creates amazing art.
I those this stitched vintage typewriter (from her office section) to inspire my design. My card uses this week's Sweet Sunday Sketch.
I began with this vintage typewriter stamp I found in the Michael's $1 bin when I was shopping in Rockford, Illinois a few weeks ago. They had already sold out at my local Michael's stores by the time I went searching for it, so I was thrilled to find it when I was traveling. I love the sentiment.
To bring out the red in the illustration, I started with red Jenni Bowlin Core'dinations Scarlet Wallpaper cardstock that I sanded, sponged with some black ink, and sanded again. I used a page from an English-to-French dictionary for the vertical elements of my design. The typewriter is stamped in Versafine ink on a blank vintage page from the dictionary. I finished with a black jewel flourish.
I hope you find inspiration.
Stephanie, I am so glad you decided to go with the typewriter! It fits perfectly with the bargain you picked up on your travels. And I like how you wove that red into your card with pieces of sanded cardstock.
It was genius of you (no pun intended, with your blog name!) to use the dictionary pages.
Thanks for having me submit a sample. It was fun!
Fabulous card! The text blocks behind your main image are perfect! Love the wonderful combo of red, black and white.
ok, the card is amazing and beautiful and clever and ♥FAB♥ as always, but i know you won’t take this the wrong way when i say i am completely BLOWN OUT OF THE WATER by the sewing machine illustrations!!! HOLY FREAKIN’ BOBBINS, batman!!! (what would i not give to EITHER sew OR illustrate that well…and she’s doing BOTH…unbelievable!!!!!!!!)
