It wouldn't be a family vacation without a round of silly photos for my sister (see prior photo silliness here). However, this year we were struggling to come up with an idea. I tried painting a Halloween mask on a stick for us to wear in photos, but the paint over-saturated the cheap wood, and it just looked like a big green blob. We finally decided we'd wait until we arrived in Chicago & hope that something came to us. And of course, it did.
The first place we stopped in the Lincoln Park Zoo was the Farm Pavilion sponsored by John Deere which was somewhat amusing since we live in the land of farms & John Deere and tried to imagine the City kids in the exhibits who had never climbed on a tractor or seen (smelled) a goat.
One of my co-workers is from Chicago, and before I left for my trip, he told me to make sure I got a plastic animal from the Zoo … one of his favorite childhood memories. And so, our new friend Lincoln was born & the photo ops ensued.
Lincoln's first stop was to take in a view of the city scape.
He also joined me in riding a hippo (hey, that's what you do at the Zoo).
But little did we know, that Lincoln would soon have a friend. In the dark recesses of the Monkey House, Jojo joined the party.
Here he is hanging out with his namesake … see the resemblance?
So Lincoln and Jojo escaped the Zoo and joined us for the rest of our adventures.
The first stop was for Banh Mi sandwiches at Del Seoul. Lincoln was a bit miffed that I chose the Bulgogi (Korean Rib Eye Steak).
But Jojo was all about the Seoul Style Street Dumplings (and so were we … they were fantastic).
They also joined us for our Stuffed Pizza outing at Bacino's. Even Jojo looks dwarfed by that monster pizza pie (and half-price on Tuesdays … doesn't get much better than that).
The final outing was some grocery shopping. Jojo was thrilled to find some of his own at Whole Foods.
There was some disagreement over which Beer to bring home. Jouo was all about the fabulous Wisconsin-brewed New Glarus Spotted Cow.
But Lincoln thought the Mission Street Pale Ale was a better (and more color-coordinated) choice.

OMGooooodness! I remember getting a plastic gorilla from the Lincoln Park Zoo and having it for-ever! And New Glarus beer totally rocks 🙂 my fav from them is the Cherry beer!
