Mudlark Butterfly

285This week's SCS Inspiration Challenge comes from the Denver store Decade Gifts. Owner Kristen Tait features lots of unique gift ideas, vintage furniture and clothing, as well as locally made accessories and housewares.  She also donates a small portion of proceeds from each category to local charities.

I chose this gorgeous Mudlark Eucalyptus Aloe Soap and Candle Set for my inspiration.  I loved the colors and patterns (which reminded me of Basic Grey's Scarlet's Letter designer paper), as well as incorporating the tall design into my layout.  My finished card is approximately 7 1/2" x 4".

I started with Scarlet's Letter Glance Paper as my background (I still think this is one of the most beautiful collections Basic Grey has ever made).  I stamped the butterfly from Hero Arts Antique Engravings on Red DP from the collection, clear embossed, cut it out, and accented it with glitter pen.

Next, I stamped the fern from Hero Arts Leaf Prints in Moss ink and punched out a two inch circle.  I stamped the butterfly a second time on the circle to get the antennae, and then attached my cut-out butterfly over the top, leaving the wing un-glued for a bit of dimension.

I wanted a vertical sentiment like the bottom of the soap/candle box, so I used a very old Michael's $1 stamp with some paper piecing on the flower and colored pencil on the leaves.  I finished with some small black metal adhesive dots.

This card is also for the Wee Memories Challenge to incorporate butterflies into your design.

I hope you find inspiration.
