Chinese Butterfly

FJ1 This week's Inspiration Challenge comes from the super-cool belt buckles of Frankie & Julie.  Frankie & Julie both share a love of fashion & art and are always looking for new and interesting ways to combine the two.  They also believe that style doesn't have to come with a big price tag.  Their goal is to offer fun, affordable, wearable art.

I chose their Carmen Collage Belt Buckle as my inspiration.  I loved the contrast of the vibrant red butterfly with the foreign texty background.

I started with a Chinese Newspaper I picked up on my trip to New York.  Next, I printed out a butterfly from Katie Pertiet's Lifted Wings No. 3 on white cardstock, detail cut the image, and glued it to the newspaper.

I finished with some Basic Grey Scarlet Letter Paper, a sentiment from Hero Arts, and a few black adhesive gems.

I hope you find inspiration.

  1. What a clever idea to use the Chinese Newspaper for the background (it’s about traffic regulation and motorcycle!)! Love your butterfly!!

(ps: i especially like that the article is about traffic regulation and motorcycles…i think that gives it a dramatic subtext which would otherwise be missing!!!) ♥

  3. I love the way that butterfly pops against the asian text. Very striking!
And… I just wanted to say, I had an AHA! moment when I read the next post… can’t believe I never thought of copy/paste with text pieces! I have some great stuff from Lauren – but was afraid to use it. Not any more! 🙂
