Wisconsin Vacation Favorites

I had a request for more pictures of our Wisconsin adventure.  I showed you stamping stores; now here are some of my other favorite experiences from the trip.

Our first stop was a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's home, Taliesin, in Spring Green Wisconsin.  It was a beautiful day with the lilacs just coming into bloom.  The blue pot in the left of the photo sits on the top of the hill with the home built around the brow (click through for a larger view).

Another view of the grounds.  No photographs were allowed inside the home.

On our way to Spring Green, we stopped at the Jasen Dane Design Gallery.  I loved the amazing driftwood sculptures.

We had a relaxing time at the Inn on Hillwind in Plymouth, Wisconsin.  We stayed in the very nice Martha's Suite, which had lots of room and a very comfortable bed.  We also enjoyed an amazing dinner at the Paddock Club in Elkhart Lake.  We decided it was our best meal of the trip.  This is the seafood special … we also enjoyed a wonderful Wisconsin Cheese plate (my new favorite is Sartori Bellavitano).

We enjoyed a fabulous Day in Kohler & Sheboygan, Wisconsin.  Our first stop was the Kohler Design Center.  It was so interesting to learn about the Kohler family and their legacy.  I particularly enjoyed learning about their Art in Industry Program.

There were also wonderful displays showcasing all of their amazing designs, as well as the "great wall of china".

We toured the Shops at Woodlake where we picked up some gifts & tried some delicious chocolate.

We really loved the Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan.  Unfortunately, they only allowed photography outside & in the bathrooms (what would you expect from a company that makes a lot of its money on plumbing fixtures).

Outside, they left the walls of a 1904 Carnegie Library intact, so they can beautifully frame the garden.

We enjoyed seeing the restored works of Carl Peterson on the grounds.

I wanted one of these concrete mosaic umbrellas for my garden.

We asked some other visitors to snap a photo of us.

Next we headed to Door County, Wisconsin.  We had a wonderful stay at the Lodgings at Pioneer Lane in Ephraim, Wisconsin (on the Green Bay side of the peninsula).  It was still considered off-season in Door County (everything opens next weekend), so we had the place to ourselves.  So very peaceful.  Here is the view from our balcony in the Leaf Room.

And inside our room.

This was our view of the sunset when we walked down to the water's edge.  Our only complaint was lots and lots of little water gnat bugs when we were near the water.

We drove all over both sides of the peninsula visiting shops, galleries, and parks.  My favorite was Cave Point County Park on the Lake Michigan side.

Cavepoint
We had the entire place to ourselves.

We ended our journey with a trip across northern Wisconsin to Eau Claire.  We stayed in the Dolce Milano suite at the Metropolis hotel … such nice accommodations.  It was a cool night, so we really enjoyed the double fireplaces & wonderful whirlpool tub, although the bed was surprisingly uncomfortable given the luxury of the rest of the room.

Metropolis
Our final day we drove to La Crosse, enjoyed a fantastic lunch at the Bodega Brew Pub, and then home on the Great River Road.   We saw lots of barns, but this was the only yellow one on our journey.
