Copper Cloche

Chambers4I'll admit it … I have a pumpkin-shaped head … when I wear a hat, it's not pretty. However, that hasn't stopped me from being fascinated by hats.  I love a woman who can pull off a fantastic Easter Bonnet or Derby Day Hat.

So, to celebrate the tradition of the Easter Bonnet, I chose William Charles Millinery for this weeks SCS Inspiration Challenge.  My card was inspired by this fabulous Copper Cloche.

I searched my stash for gold fabric or felt, but failed to find anything that reminded me of the lush texture of this hat.  So, I made my own.  I started with ivory felt and sprayed it with Mango Lemonade Memories MIst and Bronze Glimmer Mist.

Even after it had dried overnight, the color still rubbed off on my hands, so I added a coat of Prismacolor Matte Fixative to help set the color.  I attached the felt square to my 4 1/2" square card base with extra-strong double-sided tape and added a "hat-band" with the same tape.

The flowers on the hat reminded me of this great water lily punch from Martha Stewart.  I used copper metallic paper and copper brads & then attached the flowers with glue dots.  I stamped the A Muse sentiment directly on the felt band with Staz-on ink.  The shine of the copper paper made this card very difficult to photograph.

I hope you find inspiration.
