Working for a Living

It’s September 5th … and that means a new Challenge at Caardvarks.  The theme of this challenge is Working for a Living.  You are challenged to create a new card using office supplies, a career theme, work-related elements … whatever speaks to you.

Have your card linked to us in the comments section at Caardvarks by September 18th at Midnight for a chance to win another fabulous $25 gift certificate from the fine folks at Scrapbook Express.

Work1wmThis card incorporates some fun office supplies … staples, a binder clip and a manila shipping tag.

I used the very fun file-folder batik technique on the tag (Tim Holtz has a great tutorial)  The Stampendous Garden Box image was stamped with Versamark, clear embossed, and then sprayed the tag with several Memories Mists sprays to get as close as possible to the pomegranate cardstock.  Then I placed the tag between several layers of newsprint and ironed to remove the clear embossing powder.  The hope sentiment is then stamped with Staz-on Black.

The tag is attached to the card front with a silver binder clip.  I layered several felt flowers with a green rhinestone gem to finish.

This card features the one office supply that I use every day … file folders.  I expanded the Batik technique from manila tags to a file folder.

The background is a plain file folder stamped with the Hero Arts DesignBlock Birthday in Versamark and clear embossed before spraying with blue and purple Memories Mists.  I ironed the background to remove the embossing powder, and then painted on a layer of Butter Cream Shimmerz … have you tried this stuff??  It is so easy to use to add a great luminescent sparkle to any ink.

Work2closeThe chipboard flourish was also sprayed with Memories Mists and painted with more Shimmerz.  The Stampin’ Up tag image was stamped on file folder and layered on larger tag punched from the sprayed file folder.

I added a paper clip and some velvet ribbon to finish.  Who knew office supplies could be so classy??

Can’t wait to see what you create.
