Rockin’ It Heavy Metal Style

Rock2wmBecky has a great post with several examples of creations made using her free Demi Design papers.  I used the digital tips from Kimberly Crawford to print out the Demi Piffaro Shawm paper for the background on my card.

This card is for the Y.ou K.now Y.ou R.ock Rockin’ It Heavy Metal Style challenge to create a card featuring metal.  Since I didn’t really have anything metal in my collection (I seldom buy it because it seems too heavy and bulky for mailing), I had to make my own metal.

I used three layers of Silver Ultra-Thick Embossing powder (inking with Encore Silver Pigment Ink between each layer) to create an embossed strip of paper.  When the EP was still hot, I inked a border design from Fancy Pants From the Garden and pressed it into the molten metal.  After it had cooled, I removed the stamp.  I used my Tim Holtz scissors (love these) to trim the strip to fit the card and accented it with a silver bloom and brad.  The card base is silver metallic cardstock.  This sketch is from CPS.

The dragonfly image from Stampin’ Up’s Measure of Life is silver embossed on white cardstock.  The dragonfly was painted with a waterbrush and Memories MIsts in Blue Hawaiian and Adirondack Color Wash in Stream.  After it dried, a coat of Iridescent Green Twinkling H2Os was painted on to mimic the shimmer of a dragonfly.

  1. I love the look of that metal strip–like you I rarely buy anything metal because of the weight. So the stamp you used was a clear stamp? I’ve always been afraid to use them on UTEE for fear they would be damaged. I am a wood maounted rubber stamp gal!! But there are so many unique images available in clear acrylic-maybe I will have to start experimenting more!
