Birthday Cards for the Dudes in Your Life

Boybday1wmThere’s a Micro Challenge going on at Caard{varks}, so hurry on over and show us your very best birthday card(s) for the dudes in your life.  Masculine birthday cards can be challenging, so this is a chance to get one more done for your stash.

My first card uses brand new 3-step baseball stamps from Kitchen Sink Stamps.  I’ve been wanting to try their stamps for some time, and when I saw the newest set was baseball, I knew it was time to take the plunge.

For me, the most difficult part of using the stamps was finding four different shades of brown (the glove is actually a four-step image).  I finally settled on Ranger Caramel stamped off once for my base layer and three shades of brown ColorBox Chalk ink, and I was very happy with the results … the layered stamping really does produce a realistic image.

Boybday2wmMy second card was inspired by Pamela Smerker’s inspiration challenge.  I saw the yo-yo quilt on the end of the bed, and my mind started turning.  I used my 1 1/8" circle punch with all sorts of scrap DP.

I featured elements from the DP (monkey, star, silly & birthday words), as well as stamping (Hero Arts mini sentiment & birthday cake, SU sentiment) and Memories small rub-ons (cupcake, present and party hat).  I love the fun and whimsical feel of the design.

I can’t wait to see your best masculine birthday card creations.

  1. oh yeah oh yeah oh YEAH i love these cards!!!
i am fascinated by the process of the multi-step stamping on the first card! i actually thought you had “done a lauren” and cut the picture out of a magazine!!! that looks UNBELIEVABLY dimensional and realistic!
i also ADORE the second card just visually…plus what a great way to use lots of LITTLE scraps and little stamps and little leftover rubs! i’m VERY into this idea!

  3. What great ‘guy’ cards! The baseball mitt really does look real (I thought it might be a sticker!), and I love the look of all the punched circles on the other one (and great way to use up some scraps too!). Great job on a this challenge.
