In Celebration of Cinco de Mayo, the May 5th Challenge at Caardvarks is Hot & Spicy. Make a spicy card … use spicy colors, spicy foods, whatever spicy means to you. You have until midnight on May 17th to link up your card for a chance to win a fun prize package from Itty Bitty Scrap Shack.
When I mentioned to my husband that I needed a spicy card … he said mmmmm curry. So I started thinking about curry … Indian curry, Thai curry … and decided to use this yummy Cardamom paper from Dove of the East’s India Journey.
I inked around the edges with orange and sponged on a little brown for depth. I usually fight the way this ribbon frays when you cut it, but today I decided to just go with the fray.
I used scraps of the same paper for the Stampers Anonymous Breathe and to cover a chipboard arrow. There are lots of pop dots and 3-D glue dots for dimension in this creation.
Since it is Cinco de Mayo, I decided to do a Mexican stamp as well. I stamped the PSX image with Ranger Archival Coffee ink on a yellowy-orange cardstock and then began coloring with my Prismacolors and Glitter Markers. I just kept layering on the color, blending with lighter shades, until I got the bright effect I wanted. I’m going to have to try coloring on colored cardstock some more (rather than always stamping on white) … I love the effect.
I was also inspired by Friday’s Autumn Leaves calendar page (love having this on my desk at work) to use the reverse side of my ribbon … I like the rusty sparkles.
Can’t wait to see your very best Hot & Spicy creations.
