Button Memories

This weekend was the one year anniversary of my step-mom losing her long and valiant battle with leukemia.  I miss her … we all miss her.   I am grateful for the donor who gave her more time with us and for all of our friends that helped sustain her (and us) through her fight.  In her memory, I wanted to make a card using buttons from her vintage collection.  She would have enjoyed seeing all of the cards I have created with her treasures.

Buttonafterwm_2I loved this fun and funky button note card from How About Orange …  However, I didn’t have any cool colored buttons in my collection, so I used clear glass buttons instead.  Rather than print out her pattern, I used a dotted border and heart from the Fancy Pants Simply Stated collection for my stem and leaves.

In order to attach glass buttons with shanks that are not removable, I have found that using a thick glue dot works well, although How About Orange mentions a glue gun, which would probably work even better to give the dimension of adhesive needed to adhere the button to the paper.

Obviously, this card is much too heavy to be sent regular mail, but it will work perfectly for hand delivery or mailing in a box with a gift.

  1. Very pretty; I love using vintage buttons in projects. And extra special that they were your stepmom’s. I used some of my mom’s buttons (lost her 20 years ago) on a baby card for my niece’s baby (would have been my mom’s greatgrandchild.) I thought it would be a nice keepsake. Thanks for sharing how you attached buttons with shanks; I wondered about this.
