… aka when things get built & repaired.
Look what I built with my dad this morning. When I first saw the cool punch holder in Nichole Heady’s studio, I immediately e-mailed the picture to my dad and said "can we make this?" Well, this weekend my dad came for a birthday visit, and we did make it.
We started with a 2′ x 4′ piece of aspen wood which we stained with mahogany to provide some contrast to all of the pine in my studio. I wanted one of the fun new colored stains, but they wouldn’t mix specialty colors for the small amount we needed.
After the stain dried overnight, we attached mirror hanging hardware and heavy duty wire to the back. Then we attached four curtain rods approximately 8 inches apart and 1/2" from the outside of the board. The clearance works perfectly for both the large and regular size stamps, and as you can see it holds quite a few.
This afternoon, we’re going to look for something with both adhesive and texture (probably shelf liner or something similar) that we can adhere in strips across the board where the punches lean back against it. Right now it’s a little slick with plastic on wood, so the largest punches try to side around a little unless the row is full. I love having everything organized and in plain sight for ease of use. This came together much easier than I anticipated.
We also took advantage of this beautiful fall day to get outside and take a few photos.
Now we’re off to repair the security lights and maybe even install a new ceiling fan.
There’s still time to get your name in the drawing for the I-squared Inspiration. Enjoy the day.
This is just an AWESOME punch holder. What a way to spend time with your DAD and even have something to show for it. Can he come to my house next? Enjoy your birthday.
Go Dad! That’s wonderful, looks GREAT!!!
How awesome that you get to spend such fun times with your dad. My dad passed away 11 years ago, and reading your story really makes me miss him all the more! Cherish your time together.
Great stamp room!!
FYI- I’ve used acrylic paint watered down to create my own stains. This way you can get whatever color you want without spending money. (Who doesn’t own acrylic paints?) After you get the look you want, I coat my projects with a water based clear finish. I like your project…good idea.
Great project and how wonderful to do this with your dad!
